So we’ve updated the site to focus more on the upcoming events. This should make it easier for you to glance at the main page and see when we’re meeting next, as well as future events. We may also include other non-Mograph Milwaukee events in the calendar, but clearly label them.

Since most people visit the site to learn about upcoming events, we’ve de-emphasized the blog-portion of the site, but most recent posts will still be accessible lower on the main page. The blog itself is also available from the menu at the top.

We’re customizing this theme quite a bit, so if you notice any oddities, please let us know.

Here’s to 2012.

UPDATE 12/17/2010 10:15am – We will be meeting right at the iPic bar around 7:00pm tonight.

UPDATE 12/10/2010 5:10pm – General consensus seems to be iPic. As of right now, there are still 53 seats available (out of 73) for the 9:15pm screening, so I’m sure we won’t have a problem. Now the question is one of meeting beforehand…

For our December meetup, we’ll be taking it easy once again. On Friday, December 17th will meet at a bar (TBD) around 7pm or so, catch up on what’s going on with each other and the industry, then head out to see a 9:30/10:00pm showing of Tron: Legacy. We will hopefully be going to see the film in 3D at iPic in Bayshore Mall.

The good part is that all the iPic theaters are digital and it’s limited to 21+ after 7pm. The downside is, we’ll have to order tickets ahead of time, and they are $19 (includes popcorn). Now, if the general consensus is that this is too steep of a price, we can look at going to a Marcus theater instead, such as South Shore, Majestic, or Ridge, or the Showtime theater in Franklin. But since those are all a bit further out, we may have to adjust the schedule a bit.

So here’s the deal: leave a comment on this post, or on the Facebook event page to RSVP, leave a suggestion for a bar, and your feelings on movie theater. The deadline to RSVP is Sunday, December 12th at 11:59pm, I will order tickets Monday morning. Then, at the meetup, I will collect money from everyone attending. So please, only RSVP as yes if you really, honestly, truly will attend, and not just as a nicety. Don’t worry, our feelings won’t be hurt if you say no.

To recap, relevant details:

Friday December 17th

7pm iPic Bar Some Bar (Jackalope? Tonic? iPic itself?)

9:00pm Head out to the 9:15pm screening of Tron: Legacy (or later screening at another theater depending on group consensus)

RSVP by Sunday December 12 at 11:59pm

Each section is roughly 10-12 seconds. I tried to make them about equal, but the breaks don’t all land on a natural musical phrase. It won’t be that easy on you! [If you want, you can download the full song here, and the last half (the one we're animating) here.]

We’re encouraging you to contact the person before and after you to figure out how the pieces will fit together. But if you don’t, that’s okay too. This is a giant experiment and pretty much anything goes. (If you don’t know how to contact the other animators, let me know and I’ll probably be able to help out.)

So that’s it! We’ll talk progress at our next meetup on July 21st. The tentative deadline is our August meetup on August 18. Let’s see what happens!

This just arrived in my inbox from our friends over at the Milwaukee Animation Group. A local filmmaker is looking for an After Effects artist to do some compositing and VFX work on a sci-fi film in August. Looks to be a paying gig as well. Information follows:

After Effects Whiz Needed for Feature Film

Wisconsin Filmmaker is starting post-production on a sci-fi movie, and is
looking for an After Effects expert to create explosions & muzzle flashes,
computer screen motion matching & design/animation, prosthetic makeup
fixing, and various other special effects.

This is a funded project, and the director is looking for a portfolio that
demonstrates the artists’ ability to create the above effects.

The artist that is chosen will be expected to work at their own facility and
use their own equipment, have solid, professional communication skills, be
able to take direction accurately, offer creative feedback, and be available
to work starting In August.

Interested parties should contact Howard Waddell:
